EXHIBITION
Oculus: visioning a compassionate environment
Atrium Annex, Architecture building
Opening Party: Friday 11 November, 5:30pm
Oculus: visioning a compassionate environment showcases the work of graduate research students in the Melbourne School of Design (MSD) at the University of Melbourne. The exhibition, presented in the form of giant A0 posters, reflects the diversity and relevancy of the work being conducted by MSD research students and presents projects that traverse architecture, landscape architecture, urban design, planning and construction.
Oculus, the Latin word for ‘eyes’, provides a ‘window’ into both the research student’s body of work, and the extraordinary visions that they explore for the future of our natural and built environments. Looking through the Oculus, the theme for this year’s inaugural exhibition is ‘visioning a compassionate environment’.
From Matthew Ford’s investigation into local sustainable and equitable housing choices to Tullia Jack’s reimagining of laundry practices to conserve water and Kittika Kittiprasan’s research into ‘sacred landscapes’, the exhibition is topical, provocative and alluring.
Collectively, the work examines the intersection between the built environment and human values and promotes the value of sustainable and compassionate actions in the practice of design, planning and building.
