Biography

Paul Walker is a professor of architecture at the University of Melbourne, and Interim Director of the Melbourne School of Design. He is the lens leader, Design Precedents in the Hallmark Research Initiative for Affordable Housing.

Walker’s teaching focuses on architecture history, theory, and design. Recent research has encompassed mid-twentieth century architecture in Australia & New Zealand, contemporary museum architecture, colonial museum buildings in Australia, New Zealand & India, and the post-war history of medium density housing in Melbourne. His forthcoming book, John Andrews: Architecture – written with collaborators at three universities in Australia, the University of Toronto, and Milan Polytechnic – will be published in 2022.

Walker was co-editor of Fabrications, the Journal of the Society of Architectural Historians, Australia & New Zealand 2007-2012 and is currently chair of SAHANZ’s editorial board. He was made a Life Member of SAHANZ in 2019.
