Japanese Room and Terrace
Reflecting the Faculty’s long-standing connection with Asia, our treasured Japanese Room and Terrace have been sensitively restored and elevated to the top floor of our new building. Opening onto a terrace with superb views of the campus, the Japanese Room is a contemporary interpretation of traditional Japanese interior design. This elegant space incorporates elements of the original 1960s design by Shigeru Yura, with minor modifications to meet current standards for lighting, ventilation and audio-visual presentation.
The Japanese Room is a contemporary interpretation of traditional Japanese interior design and comprises a unique meeting space. The room contains many preserved elements and furnishings from the original room in the old Architecture building, which means that meetings in this room must adhere to the policies and procedures outlined below.

Studio rooms are located on Levels 1, 2 & 3 of the MSD Building and each have a capacity of approximately 18 people.
There are 8 studios on the southern side of the building. These studios are open and flexible, designed to encourage interaction and communication. This style of peer learning complements the formal MSD curriculum and establishes patterns of collaborative work, critical in professional practice.
Level 2 and 3
The studios are functional spaces with concrete and natural finishes, pin-up areas, natural ventilation, and moveable walls. Many of these studios are named after our supporters.
Corridor display spaces
The corridors on levels 1, 2 and 3 feature pin-able walls, which can be used as display and exhibition spaces.
