Dr Laura Schuijers
Research Fellow in Climate Solutions
Laura Schuijers is an Environmental Lawyer and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at MSSI. Her research focuses on climate change, including national and subnational-level policy responses to the Paris Agreement in pursuit of deep decarbonisation. She has a particular interest in US comparative law and policy. While conducting her PhD through Melbourne Law School, she spent time as a visiting scholar at Columbia Law School in New York, where she was hosted by the Sabin Center for Climate Change Law. She has also spent time as a visiting academic at Oxford Law School in the UK and at Lewis and Clarke College in Portland, Oregon. With a background in science, she is interested in exploring the interplay between science, law and politics, and in how science informs policy and law in addressing contemporary global challenges such as energy, food and water security, and biodiversity loss.
Prior to commencing her research career, Laura practiced as a corporate solicitor in the field of environment and planning law. She also volunteered as a legal analyst at the IUCN Environmental Law Centre in Bonn, Germany, and interned at Environmental Justice Australia.
