Biography

Dr. Jessica Borg is a Lecturer in Construction Management within the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning at the University of Melbourne. She is passionate about research that makes an impact on the working lives of professionals in today’s complex work environments, with a particular focus on research in the context of project-based workplaces and the construction industry.

Dr. Borg is best known for her research on the work readiness and career readiness of built environment professionals. She was awarded the prestigious Women in Project Management Scholarship by the Project Management Institute (PMI) for her academic achievements in the field. More recently, Dr. Borg was awarded an international Best Doctoral Thesis Award by the International Council for Research & Innovation in Building & Construction (CIB) for her PhD research. Her research has been published in leading project management and built environment journals including Project Management Journal, the International Journal of Managing Projects in Business, Engineering, Construction and Architectural Management and Construction Management and Economics. She has presented her research at international conferences and has been an invited guest speaker for several professional association bodies including the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM), the Project Management Institute (PMI) and the International Council for Research & Innovation in Building & Construction (CIB). Dr. Borg continues to research in the areas of workplace transitions, early career work readiness, diversity and inclusion, and professional development within project-based contexts and the construction industry.

Dr. Borg brings relevant industry experience to her academic position, holding qualifications in Project Management and having worked in industry in both project management delivery and consultancy roles. In addition, Dr. Borg has provided consultancy services to industry and professional accreditation bodies in project management, graduate program development (for project and construction management) and professional skill development. She maintains strong links with industry and is currently a global volunteer at the peak professional and accreditation body in the project management discipline — the Project Management Institute (PMI) — where she is part of the international PMI Next Generation Insight Team. Through her role, Dr. Borg works in partnership with PMI’s Academic Programs in support of building engagement opportunities for ‘Next Generation’ project managers worldwide. She is also an invited member of the Early Career Researcher Committee for the International Council for Research & Innovation in Building & Construction (CIB).

Through her research, teaching and engagement, Dr. Borg continues to champion the importance of preparing early career professionals for work in the built environment sector.
