Dr Kelum Palipane

Senior Lecturer in Architectural Design

Biography

Dr Kelum Palipane is Senior Lecturer in Architectural Design at the Faculty of Architecture Building and Planning, University of Melbourne. Kelum is a graduate of architecture with experience in several practices based in Melbourne and overseas. She obtained her PhD by Creative Works from the University of Melbourne. Kelum’s doctoral research involved developing a design framework that would help retain and foster the diverse place-making practices of multicultural communities in neighbourhood regeneration projects.

Through her research and teaching Kelum investigates how multimodal mapping and creative ethnographic methods can inform design in demographically complex urban conditions.

Kelum has teaching experience across undergraduate and graduate subjects at the University of Melbourne since 2010. She is currently coordinator of the first architectural design studio in the Bachelor of Design programme, Design Studio Alpha.
