Dr Vidal Paton-Cole

Biography

Dr Vidal Paton-Cole is a Lecturer in Construction Management within the Faculty of Architecture, Building and Planning. His research interest focusses on issues with construction of domestic houses and temporary works in construction. He currently coordinates and teaches Construction of Buildings and Commercial Construction at postgraduate level. Before he joined the University of Melbourne in 2017, he worked at La Trobe University as a Lecturer in Civil Engineering where he taught various subjects. Vidal also previously taught Civil and Structural Engineering subjects within the Faculty of Engineering at Fourah Bay College, University of Sierra Leone. Dr Paton-Cole is an invited reviewer for the Australian Journal of Structural Engineering, the Pacific Conference on Earthquake Engineering and the Australian Earthquake Engineering Society.

Trained as a Civil Engineer with over ten years’ experience in the construction industry, he has been responsible for various projects including residential, commercial and industrial buildings. Prior to his pursuit as an academic, Vidal practiced as a Structural Engineer in Victoria and was responsible for coordinating and designing various projects involving temporary and permanent works design. Vidal is a Registered Building Practitioner with the Victorian Building Authority and a Member of Engineers Australia.

Vidal holds a PhD from the University of Melbourne, a Masters in Engineering - Structures from the University Technology Malaysia (UTM) and a Bachelor of Engineering (Civil with Hons) from the University of Sierra Leone. Prior to his University education, he completed advanced studies in Building Construction and successfully obtained a Higher National Diploma (HND) and an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) from the City and Guilds of London Institute, UK.
