JAE Call for Papers - Worlding. Energy. Transitions

The Journal of Architectural Education (JAE) is opening a call for papers for its 2024 issue, Worlding. Energy. Transitions. This initiative invites scholars, designers and practitioners to contribute works that investigate the realms of design research and action in the face of global warming. The thematic focus revolves around "worlding" — a reimagining of world systems — and the transition from fossil fuels to alternative energy sources. The issue emphasises systemic approaches to climate justice and encourages contributions that examine the socio-spatial reconstruction of energy systems through various narratives.

The Call for Papers seeks a diverse array of contributions in the categories of Essay, Design, Narrative, and Image. Submissions may delve into historical transitions in socio-technical energy systems, explore specific architectural projects reflecting on design’s role in the energy discourse, or envision speculative world-building proposals to reorganize human and planetary systems. The submissions could also highlight the material-political imagination through architectural drawings, models, texts, and other genres of political arts that manifest energy imaginaries.

The deadline for submissions is February 5, 2024. For more information, head to the JAE website.
