Academic Integrity at ABP ... investigation guidance

During peak assessment periods, some students have submitted altered/forged medical documentation as part of their request for extensions in recent times. ABP’s Academic Support Office (ASO) recently emailed Subject Coordinators about this issue.

Students, as we all know, can find university very stressful at times. However, this is never an excuse for committing academic misconduct. Altered/forged medical documentation is one form of academic misconduct that students may commit to seek an academic advantage over their peers. There are others that you should be aware of too, and that have been investigated in ABP.

BEL+T developed an Academic Integrity Guidance page with ABP’s ASO, to raise staff awareness of the ways that students, specifically those studying built environments disciplines, may engage in academic misconduct. https://msd.unimelb.edu.au/belt/abp-teaching-toolbox/academic-integrity-guidance This illustrated resource shares recent examples found in the Faculty, how academic misconduct might be identified, and the steps that staff need to take before contacting the ASO about any suspicions.  The page includes links for reporting. (Noting that the role of staff is not to accuse a student of misconduct – the ASO will manage the investigations, but will use information gathered to assist).

Many thanks for your help with this, and this support for the vast majority of students who are doing the right thing and working hard on their learning at ABP.
