Online learning in practice: using weekly video mailbags

Have you considered a weekly video mailbag to increase your student engagement? They are simple to set up, can add a personal touch to your updates, as well as providing students with key information in a more engaging format.

In 2020, our academic staff have embraced new practices for teaching online.  Dr Kate Howell from the Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences (FVAS) has been recording weekly video mailbag announcements for her students.

Video mailbags are one of five initiatives she is implementing as part of the Improving Online Learning Quality Learning and Teaching Initiatives (LTIs). Learning Environments have asked Dr Howell about her experience of creating mailbags for students this semester. Find the full interview here.

If you are searching for ideas on how to improve engagement within your studio, you can find examples of how ABP staff have been embracing the move online at this page. You can also find ABP-specific resources on interaction + engagement here.
