Update to Canvas Class Timetables and Sections

With Semester 2 timetables now live, these updates may help limit/streamline instructor calendars within Canvas.

Class timetables for semester 2 went live on Monday 27th July. Students will now see their allocated class timetable in their Canvas calendar for each subject. Users allocated a staff role in a subject will see every scheduled class in their subject calendar.

The option to limit calendar information is possible, which may help streamline information for larger subjects, or one with many sections. To implement this workaround follow these steps;

  1. In Canvas, navigate to your subject
  2. Select People in the subject navigation menu
  3. Select the staff member you would like to edit
  4. Select “limit this user to only see fellow section users”

Important Considerations:

Limiting a staff member via this option will result in a much cleaner calendar. It will, however, restrict;

  • marking of assessments allocated to specific sections,
  • filtering / sorting on sections in gradebook or SpeedGrader, and
  • posting announcements or discussions to specific sections.

The "limit this user to only see fellow section users” can be toggled on and off as required, if you need to adjust between both options at any point to perform the above tasks.
