to be distracted by a cloud

Studio Description

where were you ?

you are the thing we tell ourselves late at night.

you will be home soon, a key in door, an opening, a greeting, a dropping of bag, a yelled greeting, heard from kitchen, a wave of relief, of a hand, come and give me a hand.

cut this tomato, tell me about your day, a suitcase of words, unpack in the room, your voice, mixed with smell, made with love, made with love, mixed with glue and a glove and some pliers*.

do not tell me, i do not want to know, let me sit, walk, go to work, come home from work, talk to friends, to family, to strangers in shops, each one with their own packed lunch, leftovers maybe, steamed vegetables and rice, something keto. i never wanted anyone to know anything, the makeup of systems, the counting of clocks, the missing of days, the forgetting of names, places, events, the AD and BC of you.

please, little hyena, just let me imagine.

Studio Outcomes

to be distracted by a cloud, is the next in a series of studios that look to beautiful Palestine.

Over the course of our shared semester, we will explore the land, the places, the people of Palestine. We will look to maps, to stories, to film, to words, to food, to each other to learn from a place that has so much to share, and from which, we have so much to gain.

The studio asks for rigorous, thoughtful, and self-directed research. You will have high expectations placed upon you, but with this comes care, attention, support, and a space where you can develop your thoughts about architecture. The studio relies on class discussion, requiring you to listen to your classmates, to guests, to develop opinions, critiques, yourself.

Throughout the semester you will be required to design a piece of architecture. The brief will be a sketch that you will have to complete. You will need to ask a lot of questions, listen carefully, and respond with kindness. You will want to talk about Palestine to anyone who will give you a moment to speak.

Studio Leader

Marijke is an Architect. She cares about public space, pigeons, and Palestine.
