ABB IRB 120 robots are small, multipurpose industrial robots, mounted on mobile trolleys designed to be taken into classrooms for hands-on exploration with robotics.

END EFFECTOR: GRIPPER

The gripper end effector, or tool, for the ABB IRB 120 robot allows the robot to pick-up and place objects.

END EFFECTOR: GRIPPER & VACUUM CUP

The gripper and vacuum cup is a combination end effector, or tool, for the ABB IRB 1200 robots allows the robot to pick-up and place objects using either air pressure or force.

PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENTS

The Fabrication Workshop has an assortment of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) available for students working in the fabrication workshop. PPE is a requirement for all areas of the machine workshop and for many of the other tools and equipment such as the 3D printers and spray booth.

HOT WIRE FOAM CUTTER

Cuts by vaporising polystyrene and other foam using a heated wire that is passed through the material.

CARD CUTTER FC2250 180

The card cutter uses a small knife, controlled by computer, to cut and score thin sheet materials such as card and thin plastics.

CARD CUTTER FC4500

The card cutter uses a small knife, controlled by computer, to cut and score thin sheet materials such as card and thin plastics.

SPRAY BOOTH

The spray booth is a pressure controlled, closed environment that is isolated from the rest of the workshop. It is used to spray aerosol cans, apply glues, paints and resins.

CAMERAS & ACCESSORIES

The Fabrication Workshop has a number of cameras and accessories available for lease. Items include but are not limited to Canon cameras, GoPro, lenses, tripod kit and backdrop lighting.

TOSHIBA E-STUDIO 4540C

The Toshiba printers are general multipurpose printers for everyday use. Default settings are B/W double sided A4 pages, but the printers are also capable of printing in colour and in A3. Toshiba Standard uses 80GSM and Toshiba Premium uses 120GSM paper.

COLORWAVE 600 PLOTTER

Colorwave 600 (Plotter 1) uses 100GSM paper to print A0, A1 and A2 colour or black and white prints and is useful for general large format printing purposes.

COLORWAVE 700 PLOTTER

Colorwave 700 Plotter (Plotter 2 & 3) are large format printers which can print A0, A1 and A2 colour or black and white prints. Plotter 2 is uses 90GSM paper and is useful for general large format printing purposes. Plotter 3 prints at a higher quality than Plotter 2 and is great for presentation drawings.

CANON IPF825 PLOTTER

Canon iPF825 (Plotter 4) is a high quality inkjet printer. It has been replaced by the Colourwave 700 but is still in the posession of the Print & Media Hub. The printer has two types of paper available; 190GSM gloss paper or 170GSM matte.

NEOLT TRIM GUILLOTINE

The Neolt Trim 130 S/B guillotine cuts thin paper material by sliding a rotary metal blade through the paper material. It is useful for trimming down oversized large format prints or cutting multiple sheets of paper with a single slice.

BINDER

The Print & Media Hub has free binding facilities available for students. The binder is capable of punching holes into documents and fastening them together into a coherent and professional looking booklet.

OCE TC4 SCANNER

The OCE TC4 large format scanner is used to scan documents ranging between A2 and A0. It has predefined settings used to enhance characteristics of various types of media such as printed media, sketches or plans.

HAND TOOLS

The Fabrication Workshop has an assortment of hand tools available for use. Items include but are not limited to screwdrivers, hammers, saws, clamps, squares, rulers, files, mallets and chisels.

FORMECH VACUUM FORMER

The Formech 508FS Vacuum Former applies heat and pressure to a sheet of plastic in order to stretch it over a single-surface mold.

SEWING MACHINE

A sewing machine is a machine used to stitch fabric and other materials together with thread.

SCROLL SAW

A scroll saw allows small intricate shapes to be cut from thin sheet materials such as manufactured timber boards and plastic products.

VARGA SAW VA11

The varga saw uses a small circular saw to cut thin sheet material such as timbers, metals and plastics.

DRILLS / IMPACT DRIVERS

The cordless drills and impact drivers are power tools that deliver a strong, rotational and downward force to an object to bore holes or fasten materials together.

BENCH SAW

The bench saw is a woodworking tool consisting of a circular saw blade, mounted on an arbor. The saw is driven by an electric motor and is used to cut timber.

PLANER

The planer is used to flatten, reduce the thickness of, and impart a smooth surface to a rough piece of lumber or timber.

PLUNGE CUT SAW

Plunge saws use a circular saw blade which plunges into material from above to cut it. The saw is capable of cutting mitres and bevels as well as straight cuts.

WOOD TURNING LATHE

The lathe rotates a workpiece on its axis to perform various operations such as cutting, sanding, knurling, drilling, or deformation, facing, turning about an axis of rotation.
