Morphological Mapping

Wednesday, 24 May 2017 - 9:00am to Wednesday, 31 May 2017 - 5:00pm
2nd Floor, Atrium, Melbourne School of Design

This subject introduced the field of urban morphological analysis and a range of mapping techniques relevant to urban design and planning. This also entailed analysis of the forces that shape urban form and the various spatial practices that are integral to it. Students mapped sensory experiences, pedestrian flows, social behaviour, signs, CCTV viewsheds, functional mix and public-private interfaces along the Queen St and Swanston St transects. In the final exercises collage and multi-layered mapping were used to explore different urban design concepts, approaches and potential outcomes, that help us see the city in new ways.
