MSD at HOME with Verena von Beckerath
Online - ABP Zoom Webinar
Verena Von BECKERATH And Djordje STOJANOVIC
The lecture presents a selection of housing projects designed by the Berlin based architecture studio Heide & von Beckerath with a special focus on cohousing. Tim Heide and Verena von Beckerath are concerned with space as a challenge for projects in different fields and scales. The design process leads to an ongoing research involving architecture and society, sustainability and technology. Applying both conceptual and rational thinking, the projects are informed by structural and formal clarity. Their range of work covers urban design, architectural projects, interior design and conceptual studies. In treating every project in its formal, cultural and intellectual dimensions as a whole, the studio collaborates with other architects and specialists where appropriate. Their work (from 1996 to 2008 in partnership with Andrew Alberts) is widely and internationally exhibited and published and has received numerous prestigious awards.
Verena von Beckerath is an architect based in Berlin and a co-founder of the architecture firm Heide & von Beckerath. She pursued studies in sociology, art theory and psychology at Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and Universität Hamburg and studied architecture at Technische Universität Berlin. She was teaching and research assistant at Universität der Künste Berlin and visiting professor at Technische Universität Braunschweig. Verena von Beckerath held fellowships at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart and at the German Academy in Rome Villa Massimo and was visiting professor at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. Since 2016, she has been a professor of architecture at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar where she holds the Chair of Design and Housing.
