This subject critiques the efficiency based approach to sustainability and explores alternative theories and practices that are inclusive of socio-cultural aspects such as biophilia, regenerative design and development, positive development and contributive practice. The exhibition will showcase the final assignments of multidisciplinary student teams. Students have been asked to apply the theories and practices explored during the semester by proposing interventions for the Spotswood Railway Site.
The site: this 2.8 ha site is an old railway workers site with a heritage building on it that has lain empty for over 30 years. The local community would like to do something active and contributive on the site. The students spent time with the local community listening to their ideas, and getting their input on the project, including the local public school opposite the site.
Tutors: Dominique Hes, Jane Toner, Ash Buchanan and Elena Pereyra
Launch: 1:30pm on Friday 27 May.
