Thesis

Motivations of informal transport workers in Banjarmasin's inland waterway transport sector

Limited research has been made to understand informal transport from the perspective of the workers despite their critical role in the provision of urban mobility. This research looks at filling that gap by understanding the motivations of informal transport workers (ITWs), i.e., the drivers, of inland waterway transport (IWT) in Banjarmasin, Indonesia. Their motivations will be understood as the factors that influence their participation and persistence and, in turn, how their motivations shape the functioning and sustainability of the city’s river transport sector.
