The Joseph Reed-designed heritage facade is skilfully integrated both internally (with humour) and externally through the juxtaposition of finely detailed perforated corrugated zinc sunscreens. The three storey Melbourne School of Design is a showcase of the very best that can be achieved with structural timber. The Melbourne School of Design was awarded a 2015 Australian Interior Design Award for Public Design, with the jury commenting that “the edges and central elements are experimental and unconventional, the sorts of dramatic influences that stimulate and inform learning. 6 Star Green Star Design  - Education Design v1

– The Green Building Council of Australia

Our new building has been awarded a 6 Star Green Star Design  - Education Design v1 Rating by the Green Building Council of Australia, scoring 83 points.

The 6 Star Rating represents 'World Leadership' in environmentally sustainable building practices.   Only 12 buildings in Australia have received a 6 Star Green Star Education Design – v1 rating, and our new ABP building is the largest to achieve this. Significantly, our building is the only one to ever be awarded all 10 innovation points possible in the evaluation criteria.

This is a testament to the quality of the design and construction and we are especially proud that this will be the University’s first 6 Star Green Star rated building, an exemplar of sustainable architectural design on campus.

For more information on the Green Star Design Rating system visit the Green Building Council of Australia website.
