A/Prof Clare Newton
Clare Newton is a practitioner and Director of architectural firm, Newton Hutson Pty Ltd and Associate Professor in Learning Environments at the University of Melbourne. She received the Victorian NAWIC Award of Excellence for Innovation in Construction and has been AIA Competition Advisor on many architecture competitions. She has also been successful in multiple grant applications; the most recent are two major Australian Research Council Linkage Grants, Smart Green Schools and Future Proofing Schools. The projects focus on sustainability within the education setting has seen the development of a number of design solutions to the prefabricated ‘tin cans’ that have traditionally provided capacity alternatives, particularly within primary schools. Clare is the chief investigator on the projects, using her experience and research in environmentally conscious and sustainable construction, to turn portable classrooms from "a necessary evil into delightful spaces that are integrated into their environment and landscape."
