Rapid technological advances in building design, construction, fabrication and project management are issuing great challenges and opportunities for innovative and sustainable practice. Given this context, we aim to carry out research that has significant impact on the way professionals are educated and trained to create productive and effective practices. Advancing new home sustainability through demand-side empowerment: investigating homebuyer decision-making

This research will provide a unique understanding of new homebuyers’ experiences in the home building process.

Building with Drones

Experimenting a new ‘flying’ construction technique for steel and timber gridshells

Cross-cultural analysis and capacity building in construction management practices focusing on housing and infrastructure sectors in Assam and Australia – An initiative of ‘Smart Villages” research

The aim of the project is to undertake a thorough analysis of the relevancy and applicability of existing construction management practices with a view to developing a range of solutions in a cross-cultural context between the State of Assam and Australia.

The Digital Provide

Can the use of mobile communication technologies improve the work and home life of construction site staff?

The effect of anticipatory modification on design: Evaluating housing adaptation grant programs for people with disabilities as drivers of innovation

This project will evaluate housing adaptation grant programs for people with disabilities as drivers of innovation.  The relationship between existing housing design and innovation in anticipating future modifications will be investigated.

Glass at Work

This project identifies the evolution of glass products in the last century and the impact of glass products in the design and construction of tall commercial buildings.

Global Supply Chains, Incomes and Jobs

A preliminary analysis of the global supply chains, incomes and jobs of the Australian construction industry.

Improving the Environmental Performance of Australian Construction Projects

This project will investigate the environmental impacts of construction in Australia through the development of a sophisticated hybrid environmental assessment model.

Parametric Adjustable Mould (PAM)

This research will develop an industrial application using numerically controlled technology in the fabrication of complex doubly curved surfaces. This unique manufacturing procedure has the potential to provide a cost effective solution to the current manufacturing methodology while reducing material waste in mould design.

Intelligent Estimator

This research explores the development of a user-friendly and reliable estimating system for forecasting the costs of service elements early in construction projects.

PARLOUR: women, equity, architecture

The PARLOUR website brings together research, informed opinion and resources; generating debate and discussion; expanding the spaces for women in Australian architecture.

Performance Analysis of Cool Roof Products

This project evaluates the effectiveness of Dulux's heat-reflecting Cool Roof Coatings. Monitored data will be comparted with with modeled data to facilitate predictions of building coating performance.

Procuring Innovation or Triggering Fragmentation?

This research project investigates issues of construction innovation at the level of the specialist façade sub-contractors and in the context of the building typology of multistorey University buildings in Australia.

Rapid Sky-View Factor Modelling using Global Illumination

This project aims to respond to the growing issue of heat retention in dense urban centres – urban heat island effect (UHI) and the associated heat related morbidity, by developing a new analysis model.

Seacombe West – Australia’s First Regenerative Community

This project will apply regenerative design processes to return biodiversity, vibrancy and ongoing benefits to Lake Wellington and surrounding lands.

Transforming Building Environmental Design

This project will reduce national energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions associated with the construction and operation of new and existing buildings.

Wave Hill Walk Off Trail

This project aims to commemorate and educate about the events of 1966 - 1975 which saw the indigenous Gurindji people take a stand against oppressive working conditions and maltreatment at Wave Hill. The first project phase involved the design and construction of three ‘bough shelters’ along this Natural Heritage Listed trail.
