Taglietti: Life in Design

Thursday 23 July – Friday 28 August

This exhibition explores the work of Milan-born architect Enrico Taglietti, celebrating an extraordinary life and career developed in creative partnership with his wife, Franca. A visionary in understanding the potential for an architecture that responds to human need, Taglietti brought an independent design language that has made a significant contribution to modern Australian architecture.

Part of an international creative community, Taglietti’s practice extended well beyond buildings. His work encompassed architecture and urban design alongside interiors, graphics, landscape, and lifestyle, revealing a holistic approach to design grounded in everyday life.

By revisiting Taglietti’s life and work, the exhibition positions him as a truly global architect whose career spanned Europe, Africa, America, and Australia. It also foregrounds his deep engagement with local communities – work that continues to resonate today, particularly in much-loved projects such as Giralang Primary School Canberra, St Kilda Public Library Melbourne, and St Anthony Parish Church in Sydney. At a time when speed and efficiency often dominate design and construction, Taglietti’s work reminds us of the enduring value of civic life and human scale.
