Plug-In Ecology

Bringing the shops and amenities into the heart of the neighbourhood.

This design looks at how families could increase their incomes through neighbourhood-based micro-businesses. The idea is similar to the local corner shop, small family or local resident-run businesses within neighbourhoods. Disused garages, spare rooms and unused spaces are transformed to house new economic opportunities. The front of the house can become a full-time or part-time business. Residents may choose to keep their private space in the backyard, or use the space to support the enterprise.  Additional accommodation is created and leased, fruit and vegetable shops and bakeries are opened, and day-care and child minding services are examples.
