Sunshine Food Harvester

Building on an existing food business to encourage local food production and community participation.

The Sunshine Food Harvester expanded the existing FoodWorks shop by adding a multi-level carpark and productive urban farming on several floors above the shop. Food is produced with hydroponic systems and rooftop gardens as well as beehives, while the waste from the shopping centre is incorporated back into the composting cycle that provides nutrients for the gardens. Food is processed in the ground-floor factory before being sold in the FoodWorks outlet. Locals can tend a plot in the community garden section of the building, or spend time watching the outdoor big screen and eating food prepared in the on-site café.
