The Beating Heart of Sunshine
Sunshine Plaza transformed: a public plaza focused on food and health services.
Breaking down the traditional concrete block model of a shopping centre, Sunshine Plaza is transformed into a public plaza focusing on food and health services. Incubator food stalls showcase the diversity of cuisine and cultures in Sunshine, sourcing produce from local urban agriculture sites, including the building’s own vertical gardens. The project is made financially viable by collocating the Brimbank Council offices and residential apartments above the shopping centre. The building is permeable both horizontally and vertically, allowing movement through the shared spaces that include an amphitheatre, green roof, and ground level plaza.
