The Urban Ribbon

Renewing the fractured urban fabric with a thriving precinct of distinct built forms.

The Urban Ribbon addresses the issues of a fractured urban fabric and car dominated suburb through a series of built form typologies and a scheme of urban renewal. The Urban Ribbon is a staged intervention centred around the rail precinct. It relinks Sunshine by revitalising the road overpass as a public plaza prioritising pedestrians and cyclists. The three building typologies – the warehouses, the silos, and the mobile units – provide mixed-use sites designed to change and adapt to the context over time. The landscaping reinstates a natural habitat along the rail corridor. Sustainable technologies include solar and wind power generation, water harvesting and recycling, and urban agriculture.
