Biography
Ben Rimmer is Associate Secretary of the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing and the CEO of Homes Victoria. Ben re-joined the Victorian Public Service as the Director of Housing in December 2019 after 12 years in senior leadership positions with the Australian Government and with the City of Melbourne, where he was CEO.
As the Director of Housing, and CEO for Homes Victoria, Ben leads the largest social and affordable housing investment and reform agenda in Victorian history. In April 2020, Ben was appointed Associate Secretary of the then Department of Health and Human Services, a role created to support the Department’s COVID-19 response. Ben has retained this position and now oversees Executive and Legal Services in this capacity alongside his responsibilities for Homes Victoria.
In the Victorian Department of Premier and Cabinet and the Australian Government Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Ben led work on social policy, Commonwealth-State reform and service delivery. He then spent time in operational leadership and change management, as Associate Secretary of the Commonwealth Department of Human Services. Through his work with the City of Melbourne, Ben has significant experience in urban renewal, property development, planning and homelessness.
