Karen Percy

Biography

Karen Percy is a veteran news reporter, with more than 30 years experience, including a stint as a foreign correspondent. She is passionate about gender equity and diversity, and a strong advocate for ethical journalism and press freedom.

Karen is a co-Vice President of the Media section of the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance - the union for journalists - and a director of the Walkley Foundation. She is Chair of the Dart Centre Asia-Pacific which focuses on trauma and journalism.

Her career has taken her around the country - Adelaide, Alice Springs, Darwin, Sydney and now Melbourne - and around the world - Canada, South East Asia, Russia. She's worked for the ABC, Channel 10 and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. From 2006-2009 she was an ABC correspondent based in Bangkok. In 2010 she went to Moscow and freelanced for a number of agencies including CBC, SBS, Radio France International, Deutsche Welle, Orf in Austria and Radio New Zealand.

In recent years she specialised in court reporting In Melbourne.

She now freelances and does some teaching and has completed her GAICD with the Institute of Company Directors. In her spare time she does taekwondo!
