Ian Gilzean

Biography

Ian has worked in architectural practice for a number of public sector organisations as well as in private practice, in London, Glasgow and Edinburgh including spells at community-led design units in Wester Hailes and Drumchapel.  Initially joining Scottish Government in 1999 he became Chief Architect in 2006 and is also Head of the Architecture and Place team in the SG..

Ian has been involved in architectural education since the 1990s. He was a Visiting Professor at the University of Strathclyde and for the past four years he has been involved in the Architecture and Urban Planning Masters course at Dundee University. In 2016 he worked on secondment at the Melbourne School of Design as a Visiting Fellow.
