Call for Applications - ABP Designing Future Education Grants 2026

A student works with mirrors in the robotics lab In 2026, proposals are invited for projects that display innovation and creativity in teaching and learning, within and beyond ABP.

The ABP Designing Future Education Grants support innovation and collaboration in design education. These grants are for testing new ideas, methods, and outputs relating to education in Built Environment and Design disciplines. The projects should develop outcomes that inform future teaching & learning practices within and beyond the faculty.

Proposals are encouraged to respond to ABP impact agendas (Climate Action / First Nations / Healthy Places / Social Justice / Future Practice) and to explore one (or more) of the following themes:

  • Inclusive teaching and assessment
  • Interdisciplinary and/or collaborative teaching
  • Work-integrated and experiential learning
  • Widening participation
  • First-year transition and learning experience
  • Secure assessment practices

Up to $5,000 per project is available for 2026. 

Proposed projects should be completed, and funding spent, by 30 November, 2026.

Activities

Some changes to the funding guidelines have been made in 2026.

Funded activities may include:

  • Project Costs (e.g. materials)
  • Media and dissemination (e.g. event or exhibition costs, zine or flyer)
  • Peer Exchange (e.g. symposia, public conversation, forum)
  • External Tech Support (e.g. graphics, film, editing)
  • Other (Projects should fit within the criteria outlined in this document)

Funding cannot be used for:

  • Additional time for faculty staff
  • Teaching cover (unless by prior agreement)
  • Open-Access publication costs
  • Conference attendance travel (now covered through an alternative funding scheme)
  • Research Assistants

Drop-in Session

A drop-in session will be held on Tuesday 2 July, 12:00 - 1:00pm in the Level 4 Staff Room, Glyn Davis Building.

Publication Opportunity
Awarded projects will be eligible for inclusion in a new edited publication celebrating teaching innovation in ABP.
