Piloting critical and purposeful GenAI use in assessment
Share via
Teaching and Learning Innovation (TLI) is running a pilot to explore, trial and evaluate assessment approaches that support students to engage critically and purposefully with GenAI, with implementation commencing in Semester 1, 2027. The pilot focuses on helping students make informed decisions about when and how to use these tools, drawing on disciplinary knowledge and judgement.
Approaches might include using GenAI for formative feedback or questioning, asking students to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs, or incorporating GenAI at specific stages of an assessment where it serves a clear educational purpose. Participating teaching teams will receive practical co-design support to develop or refine their approach and plan for implementation and evaluation.
Teams will reflect on their experiences and contribute to evaluation activities, with insights informing practical examples, case studies and future assessment design guidance.
