The ways in which educators can foster student wellbeing are increasingly seen as an essential part of teaching practice. Concerns about the wellbeing of higher education students are well reflected in studies that indicate increased risks of psychological distress  impact students ability to learn and succeed at university.

As an extension on the findings of their four-year research study “The Wellbeing of Architects: Culture, Identity and Practice (2020–2024)” Parlour is addressing these concerns through a two-day symposium on The Wellbeing of Architects [education + practice].

The symposium will discuss and propose ways of incorporating practices that promote wellbeing within Architecture through education and practice.

Parlour’s research has shown that students who study in built environment disciplines are particularly at risk of practices that do not support wellbeing. The symposium is an opportunity to improve teaching practice focused on well-being.

Day one of the symposium will focus on Architectural Education including;

  • Exploring methods to improve the wellbeing of students and educators.
  • Insights from teachers and student leaders,
  • Identifying effective practices and cultures that foster mental wellbeing – in the studio and beyond.
