In this lecture, José Manuel Toral Fernandez guides us through a tour of the practice’s projects showcasing different ways of inhabiting homes and the implementation of new construction systems, while analysing strategies for addressing the challenges presented by social and environmental sustainability in collective public housing.

About the speaker

José Manuel Toral Fernandez founded the studio Peris+Toral Archiquitectes in 2005 with Marta Peris. The practice is based in Barcelona, and supports their professional and academic activity.

The firm’s projects have been published in renowned books, both national and international and exhibited in the UIA Tokyo in 2011, in the Cité de l’Architecture et du Patrimoine of Pars in 2009 and at Biennale di Architettura di Venezia in 2000. Nowadays they’re working on different projects, both housing and public space, as well as teach in the Faculty of Architecture in Barcelona (ETSAB) and in the IED.

The firm has published several articles about housing in books and magazines among which the Arquitectura COAM Ed. Fundamentals and DC Papers.

Their work has been recognized by several awards such as the AJAC Joves Arquitectes in 2011, finalist in 2009 at the FAD awards, finalist for the Saloni awards of Arquitectura in 2009, the UIA award in 1996, Construmat mention award in 2015, the COAVN award, among others.
