Kyoto

Our team aims to design an extra layer of network city that develops above Kyoto. As in our design, tower as street expansion is our key volumetric development concept. In addition, permeability is the key criteria that helps us to define our design from massing to interior.

In this project, we started from an analysis of Kyoto’s urban permeability, which is the key reason to keep Kyoto’s street life active. As we will like to bring these points to our new design, street and permeability become the two most important elements at the beginning. Inspired by Kyoto’s volumetric expansion idea, we then try to generate the network city by using a wet grid system. After that, we use permeability as a key criterion element to further develop our design. Last but not least, apart from the massing of the network city, we keep zooming in and show how permeability would be useful in various aspects and scales to enrich the urban experiences when people explore the floating network city.
