Portland B

Chengqian Wang and Siyu Zhao

The aim of this scheme is to provide a high-density urban form with rich walking experience for Portland CBD. The most notable negative feature of the Portland CBD is the abundance of open parking, which directly reduces the walking experience, so we regard these plots as the foundation for Portland's new urban form. We then start from the urban expansions to think about how to create a better walking experience of the cities. The disadvantages of existing urban sprawl, which is horizontal sprawl and vertical sprawl, are obvious. However, both ways have their own advantages. Therefore we combine the two expansion ways to create a 3D expansion method, the core of which is to expand the two-dimensional walking network into a three-dimensional one and combine it with the new tower to form a volumetric city. Three algorithms are used to generate this new urban form, which are the Conway 's game of life, the ant colony algorithm, and the multi-objective genetic algorithm. After constant testing, evaluation and optimization of the form generated by these algorithms, we finally create what we think of as a volumetric city.
