Naturel

This bathhouse dwells on nudity and nature as a means to reconnect people to our natural selves. Within Melbourne most spas, pools and beaches don't allow for nudity, whilst most of Australia’s natural bathing environments aren’t close enough for convenient visits.

The architecture draws inspiration from nature for its tektonics, bathing spaces are carved from stone mass, timber elements rise above as point line and plane, forming relaxation areas. Meanwhile, aquatic plants and microorganisms are utilized to naturally filter the bathhouse water whilst providing oxygenation.

A stimulating and comforting atmosphere is created throughout the bathhouse through the use of natural veiling agents, such as falling water, steam and indirect lighting. Feature lighting is used to engage the eye as people enter a space, drawing attention to architectural features and distracting the eye from dwelling on others.

Naturel aims to bring the distinct elements of nudity and nature to Melbourne's city centre, creating a unique closeness between people and their environment, as well as each other.
