The Ephemeral

All experience of space is a time-structured process. The Ephemeral aims to curate moments that evoke the perception of time in order to provide an antidote to the instantaneous, speed-driven contemporary lives.

The house is designed as a living structure that not only responds to the change of time but also self-grows together with the occupants to facilitate better lives. The house adapts a basic circular form to maximise the exposure to natural sunlight and the view to Yarra River. Openings along the north-facing façade allow light access which informs the internal layout in response to the specific activities carried out at different times of the day. The passage of time can be perceived at a spectrum within and around the house demonstrated by the change of light and shadow, as well as the regenerative cycles of organisms.

“We identify ourselves with this space, this place, this moment, and these dimensions become ingredients of our very existence.” (Pallasmaa 2012)
