‘Scenes from Sunday’ is an investigative project looking into the role of material culture in domestic living, and the emotionally expressive attributes of architecture using the 2016 film ‘Paterson’ as a framework. The project explores the influence of these themes on everyday life by re-designing the main character’s house around selected scenes, and moments from the film.

For each scene, the architecture attempts to aid, reflect, and exaggerate the cinematic qualities which guide the audience in their emotional responses to what is happening on screen, whilst also being crafted around the objects and actions at their core.

At the heart of the project is the desire to express the detail and poetry of ordinary, every day life through the new scenes with the same degree of care which is present in the film. Through the design however it also attempts to enhance their emotional affect by manipulating the spatial parameters in which they take place.
