House for your future

Baby Boomers are a high-age group born in the post-World War II development period, well-educated, demanding, and still in good physical condition. Relative research shows that they are not elderly people with reduced mobility, but who are still willing to socialize and continue their interests. This program creates a quieter inward living environment in-between the outer world at 359 Canning St for four target groups that combine shared communal space with private landscape dwelling space. The program is formally arranged under a single-story platform with six partial extended roof volumes, opening up the house towards changing filtered skylight and treetops. The central linear public space belt is activated and opened to different groups at different times. A multifunction workshop connects to the main street as a “communicator”, passer-by is invited to get a glimpse through the facade window into the inner layer of the active space. Private small gardens will be allocated to each group of boomers, which belong only to their bedrooms, trying to create a private inner world in a large shared community for them. Each group of boomers deserves a separate living room and private dining room, while flexible separation allows private spaces to be recombined into large spaces to accommodate crowded use.
