Getting Back on Your Feet – A Design Exploration for People Recovering from Homelessness in St Kilda

The phenomenon of homelessness in Melbourne and the inner suburbs have been increasingly noticeable due to various factors such as the decline in housing affordability and negative media coverage in recent years. As a result, increasing number of people experiencing homelessness have been allocated to rooming houses. Despite having roofs atop of their heads, rooming houses and lives around them need to further investigate to help their residents to recover from homelessness.

This design thesis aims to explore how design could be improving liveability from perspectives of rooming house residents and helping the vulnerable group to reconnect with mainstream society and thus become housed independently.
