Industry Partner Project Studio

Subject coordinator: Dr Andrew Martel

This capstone subject brings together and builds on an understanding of construction technologies and construction management concepts. Using a series of studio-based exercises, students will investigate and critically appraise construction management techniques utilized on a current project underway - the New Student Precinct of Melbourne University - currently being constructed by Kane Construction, contrasting them with other approaches used on other projects where appropriate. A project-based learning environment will be formulated for students to experience construction and project management processes and decision making.

Students form teams to identify, analyze and present various construction management aspects of the case study project from various stakeholder perspectives. Specific aspects include procurement methods and contract types, brief development, value engineering, tendering, buildability, construction planning, site layout and management, occupational health and safety, quality management, and contract management.
