In this project, we were asked to choose and design a character from the script Metamorphoses. Based on the character description given in the script, we came up with descriptive adjectives which later guided our design processes. In the case of my chosen character HUNGER, the adjectives are hungry, fearful, nightmarish, and death. Following that, we used the mannequin to explore these adjectives in a sculptural way. We provided a posture (figure) for our character, and then manipulated the silhouette through the use of paper and tape to emphasize certain features of the character, such as the ‘spine’ which portrays HUNGER’s bony appearance, and the ‘belly’ which represents her never-ending hunger. Lastly, using the silhouette we created with our mannequin, we produced a fully coloured design for our character in which we will select a colour palette to supplement our silhouette. The overall palette of my design is dark and grey to highlight the idea of death and nightmare which is associated with the character herself.
