Ovoid Atelier: Assembly of Ikebana and Pottery

It’s that season again
The winter breeze of Tokyo
The hot fume warming me up
The sound of the crackling firewood
It’s that season again
Her flowers for my vase
My vase for her flowers
In this space
One with nature and the deities
The coming of spring
It’s that season again
The sweet smell of hydrangea
Leading the way to my Oasis
The rainy summer days are here
It’s that season again
The damp cold ceramics
Stored for the coming winter
Await to be in blaze again

The OVOID Atelier serves as a platform to empower a visually impaired potter, in collaboration with an ikebana master. It represents the journey from the potter’s creation, moving towards the final ikebana assemblage.

The project is designed to heighten the sensory experience through materiality and programmatic responses.

The overall elliptical form allows for a soft play on light and shadow inside the atelier. The different sensory elements used, such as the fragrant garden at the entrance and a steel staircase in the central void, enriches the experiential moments for the users of the building.
