CO-INDIVIDUAL HOUSE

‘A Private Share House’ - Exploration Of The Boundaries Between Privacy And Sharing

Through the observation of the human life cycle, it could be found that people pay more attention to their own privacy in different age groups. Most people prefer independent private spaces rather than sharing spaces.

The project describes the level of privacy and the degree of sharing from two aspects. More emphasis has been put on the ‘sharing’ in the outer spaces of the apartment. Residents can have some outdoor interactive activities in their yards, where different types of communal spaces are enclosed by fences through typological research. Moreover, we try to share the yards, including the front yard and backyards among the neighbours in order to build their relationship. However, security arrangements in the apartment still need to be taken into consideration; the fence will adopt the method of combining gate isolation with the outside world, shared yard just before dusk.

Privacy is also emphasized in the interior of the apartment, with the design of the double folding façade to flexibly alter the level of privacy in the interior among three states, that is, closed, semi-open(Translucent), and open(Transparency). Residents, therefore, can change the level of privacy within the room at any times according to their own demands.
