Xuewei He

This project is a zero carbon aquatic centre located on the St Kilda triangle site, aims to create a joyful community space for the local public, as well as the visitors from various direction. The aqua centre is a one story structure with a roof plaza and several individual units inserted into the main structure, it connecting the two levels of Harbour Esplanade and Jacka Boulevard. Curvy and circular shapes are used here to generate a soft form echoing with the water.

The roof plaza is directly accessible from the Harbour Esplanade level, which is an open public area facilitated with greenery, courtyard, skylights and kids playground, as well as several amphitheater do down to Jacka Boulevard level, people could enjoy movies and live performance here. Under the roof, there are multiple aquatic programs for members to enjoy, including Olympic pool, kids pool, spa and sauna, gym and a rooftop leisure pool.

5200 sqm of solar panels are installed on the roof of the Olympic pool and gym, which provide energy for the air to water heat pumps, which are used to heat the pools. The building also facilitated with tight envelop, natural ventilation, green roof, timber structure above the pool and concrete structure as thermal mass, these all contribute to the smart energy use of the project.
