Quarry rehabilitation has been known to be readapted into parklands with re-conditioning of grasslands and other uses such as farm grounds and natural grounds for wildlife. Thus, completely transforming the site into a new natural haven, unrecognisable from its past. Remnants are derived from the act of quarrying, chipping away at the rock and how architecture can form a relationship with the human-made voids. The concept of 'remnants' is to maintain the essence and abstractions of the quarried site by immersing the architectural outcomes amidst its remaining condition and using fragmentation as an architectural language. The project follows the concept of 'building as fill' rather than a 'soil as fill' approach as an attempt to lessen the environmental shame that is often associated with quarrying.

The relationship between the quarry walls or rock faces and the buildings was an essential aspect of the overall design intent. Design impacts were only made in the quarried cul-de-sac areas, leaving the natural park as is to give structure to the conceptual ideas. There are several layers to the project including a seasonal program of the main acoustic stage with a back of house building and other programs including a festival zone, sky restaurant/bar, camping area, accommodation and a performance school. 'Remnants' is about architecturally building back upon what was extracted.
