Aiming to achieve carbon neutrality, Mawson Primary School is proposed with a series of adaptive reuse and extension with new spatial configuration strategy. Key design principles include versatile, meaning to provide a supportive and productive learning environment with flexible learning settings. Sense of student ownership is particularly integrated at the core by generating a less institutional building and creating a warm and inclusive environment. By creating vast amount of outdoor area, a communal and lively learning atmosphere is generated with uninterrupted line of sights across the entire learning compound.

Carbon neutrality strategy focuses on both active and passive integration to minimize the overall energy consumption and greenhouse gas emission. Through air-sourced heat pumps, solar PV installation and upgrading the existing building fabric with adequate insulation and thermal glazing, Mawson Primary school will turn into a sustainable education building designed to address to environmental and climatic challenges.}
