Grassyard: A New Open Space in Melton
In 2020, the sudden virus, COVID-19, has messed up the whole world. Beginning in March, the longterm lockdown restricted Melbournians within the limited activity range of their home. It exposed the inequality in access to green space in Melbourne. This project focuses on increasing the acreage and enhancing the quality of an existing vacant open space in Melton, to obtain more equal access. By bringing the grassland back into the neighborhood and transforming the vacant space into a suburban grassland-characteristic park, this scheme will benefit the residents’ physical and mental wellbeing. Also, this park can potentially become the backyard of the surrounding neighbours. Further, the successful celebration of various native vegetation can change people's attitudes about the aesthetic value of native grassland.
