Momentum
Questioning the dominance of pattern driven ocular design by privileging multi-sensorial landscapes

Design Research Question:
Modernists were fixated with order and pattern generation, which may be understood as an ocular driven design methodology. However, my theoretical position is that modernism has never died because the contemporary design is still occupied dominated and passionate dominated. This design research project aims to design a landscape which challenging ocular dominance through the phenomenological and experiential interpretation of the site with privileging other senses over the visual. Project

Statement:
“Momentum” is a design project which questioning the dominance of pattern-driven ocular design by privileging multi-sensorial landscape at Edgars Creek. My position has modernism never died because when we look at the contemporary public design, it’s still ocularly dominated, and it is still pattern-driven. It could be argued that modernist were fixated with order and pattern, and this could be understood as ocular driven design. My design responds to enhance three experiential spaces by privileging other senses over the visual. Based on my design research, the topography of the site has the condition of momentum designing landscape, so I create some quality landscapes that could be experienced according to my site circumstances, which my design could be eternal or intermittent . Three sensorial experience locations has been amplified by different design elements, such as new plants selection of deciduous tree to amplifying hot and cold weather experience, heavily planted She-oak tree to amplifying sound and haptic experience, strong breeze area amplifying rustling sound and playing experience by specific plants choices. So my design illustrates in my booklet, which is the maple weather amplifying space, the She-oak haptic amplifying wind tunnel and the Elm tree small path.
