For project three, I have created a series of six storyboard images done digitally on my iPad using Procreate. The storyboards illustrate the lighting concepts I would intend to create to portray Tim Winton’s short story called A Blow A Kiss as a stage production. A Blow A Kiss tells the story of young boy, Albie, who heads home with his father one night when they encounter a drunken motorcycle accident. Albie’s father chooses to help the injured man, and they take the injured man back to the city centre, where the man’s father is brought back to his injured son. In this story, Winton portrays two contradictory ideas of fathers through the eyes of Albie – which is a key aspect of all Winton’s short stories and novels. Each storyboard portrays a key scene of the short story and how lighting techniques such as spotlights, coloured lighting and the intensity of lights help to strengthen the storyline of the short story, as well as capturing the audience’s attention in key aspects of the scenes. The lighting used primarily help to illustrate the theme of fatherhood and the differences in the representations of fathers as well as to show a clear storyline following Winton’s short story.
