→ Dawn - By Federico Garacia Lorca
(lighting design proposal)

→ Introduction
Dawn is a poem written by Federico Garacia Lorca. The poem is part of a collective composed by the author during his visit to New York City between 1929 and 1930.[1]

The concept of the lighting design behind my proposal supporting the poem was to create a live performance of Lorca’s life, from his upbringing in Spain to his time spent in New York City. I have created a storyboard with consecutive sequencing of this timeline, where the lighting design plays a critical role in aiding the performance. In a similar notion to Lorca’s poem, the lighting design adds a poetic touch, making meaning on stage through the communication of ideas, memories and thoughts.

→ Conclusion
Locra often refers to light within his poetry, where light symbolises hope and anticipation towards the future. The poem of Dawn instead highlights the lack of light, where there is a sense of isolation and lack of humanity in the city of New York he discovers. The lighting design created in support of this poem adds a combination of angles, tone, void, volume and spectrum to recreate Locras life experiences. The poetic nature of the light added to this storyboard is intended to display and shift emotion with each scene, bringing forth the feelings and ideology that Locra once had.
